Homes to see (not pictured):
-Aiken Rhett House: Best example of the life of a wealthy southern family with slaves. It has a self-guided audio tour. Informative. I would suggest doing this house first.
-Nathaniel Russel House: Beautiful gardens, lots of antique furniture. Our guide was not too knowledgeable, but it was still a good tour. The house has a 3 story free floating spiral staircase.
-Edmond Alston House: I actually can't remember if we made it to this one, but it looks interesting.
My favorite part of the homes were rooms that they called "withdrawing rooms" where part of the party, either the gentlemen or the women would withdraw to another room so that they could talk without being disturbed. I need to turn my closet into a withdrawing room from my children! Stocked with ice cold diet coke, chocolate, and a good book of course.
