I absolutely love the heart layout by Jess Mutty. It is so gorgeous and I knew that I had to scraplift it.  So the other day when amazingly both kids were asleep and I should have been doing something productive like the dishes or laundry, I decided to start Alex's baby book.  I want to make sure that his book stays "boyish" which is surprisingly hard to do.  I thought that adding less elements (and NO flowers--a feat in and of itself) made it look more masculine. But it still seems kind of empty. I'll probably let this layout rest and then pull it out in a couple of months and rework it.

How do you keep your boy layouts masculine?

I think that layout looks good; I like the streamlined style.

I haven't yet had to make many boy-centered layouts, but when my little guy gets here this fall, I will. Thus, I've already begun thinking about it, and trying to get a collection of embellishments that aren't flowers. I'm trying to focus on buttons, stars, & paper accordions rather than flowers. I'm okay with some ribbon embellishments, but I'll try to use string/twine more than ribbon.

I think there are plenty of boy-ish embellishments that you could use, for sure - and frames and stuff. I like the bones of it though :) some embellishment ideas: tags, stitching, any sort of paper medallions, or as the above poster mentioned, stars, buttons, paper accordions/fans - and the leaves that you're using - or even paint spotches or something :)

I love the layout! I think limiting embellishments makes the layout look more modern rather than masculine.Maybe changing the color scheme would help? If you don't want to do baby blue the yellow-gray-white pallette that's so popular right now would be adorable. I think you can even use flowers that aren't too feminine, maybe ones that look especially like paper or burlap. He is a sweet new baby after all. I also LOVE the wire words! That is a great touch!

Thanks everyone! I should post my layouts for critique more often! Great ideas! It helps to know what others are doing on their boy pages.
