Colored paper or tissue paper
(it helps to limit your colors)
Posterboard or scroll of paper or butcher paper (larger the larger the better)
Study the styles of Matisse's shapes. Pick a theme or idea of what you would like to create with cutouts. (Elinor and I wanted to create under the sea so we used cooler colors with a little yellow. We didn't think the sea would have lots of sharp lines, so most of our shapes were rounded and organic.) Cut shapes out of your paper. Arrange them on your paper and glue them down. Share your masterpiece with the class!
